An Update, Apology, Thank You, and Some Spirited Away

My beautiful readers,

Oh my goodness, I love all of you so much!

I’m so sorry for quite literally dropping off of the blogging scene! There has been a lot going on, but I will try to keep this relatively short. And to make this a tad bit more interesting, I’m using one of the cutest movies EVER to help illustrate ;).

For the past several months I’ve been dealing with an illness that really wasn’t a bit deal on it’s own as far as symptoms. The treatment however, left me feeling like a lot of this on good days:

And on the bad days…. Well, something a little like this:

Poor Haku

I know it seems dramatic, but there you are. I’ve managed to push myself through work and important life things well enough though. Unfortunately, I was not feeling or looking very blog worthy for a good while. It was very frustrating!

Not Amused

The good news is, my body has finally gotten used to the medications and I’m almost back to feeling 100% again! Most of all, I’ve been feeling the blogging bug! Let’s go little blog!

I owe a TON of this motivation to all of you who have continued to interact with me on other blogs and especially those who have liked, commented, and followed my blog in the last few months! I seriously cannot say how much I appreciate all of this! I don’t know if I would have been able to pick up this blog again if it wasn’t for all of your support. ❤ ❤ ❤

Throughout this time that I haven’t been able to blog, I’ve had loads of ideas, so expect some pretty cool things from me in the future. I’m going to ease into it again and I won’t post too frequently at first, but I plan on blogging more after I get going.

Once again, thank you so much! I’ll be back with my first beauty related post this week!

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award ^_^

First of all, this award is super adorable!

Sisterhood of the World

I was nominated by Ello Kelsey, Blush and Bluebells, Brittany. Their blogs are seriously awesome and filled with all sorts of fashion and beauty goodness ;).

Because I was nominated by three different blogs, I’m going to choose 10 of the questions so this doesn’t end up a monster of a post. The colors of the questions will correspond to the above link colors so you know who the questions came from.

1. What is your favorite go to look when you’re on the go?

I really prefer a simple look when I’m busy. Blame it on the number of Korean dramas I watch, but I a touch of bb cream, mascara, eyebrows, and a very light blush.

Fresh faced and slightly dewy ^_^

Fresh face Dara

Now, I’m not saying I look like Dara, but a girl’s got to have skincare goals, right? 😉

2. What is your favorite foundation?

I don’t wear a lot of foundation, but I just discovered the Shocking ZZ Cream and I think I’m in love!

3. Describe your personal style.

Lord have mercy, I don’t even know. Cute?

Yes. Cute. I will pretty much wear anything cute. Especially hair accessories ^_^.

4. Where do you buy most of your makeup?

Online. Definitely online. Unless I move to South Korean one day in which case it will be at the individual brand stores ;).

I just prefer the skincare conscious formulations over there. Remember my skin health goal? ^^^

5. Which brand has the best nail polish in your opinion?

Sally Hansen! Oh my goodness, less coats, long lasting, good price…what else could I possibly need in a nail polish?

6. What is your favorite food?

Right now? Probably pho. I’m always down for some good pho :D.

Pho with dad!

That was date night with Daddy back in January. Poor bald guy gets cold easily ;).

7. Do you have a favorite Beauty Blogger, Youtuber, or Instagramer? If so, why?

Yes! Bubzbeauty was the first channel I ever started watching when I first wanted to learn about makeup. I learned so much in those first newbie years from her <3.

8. How long do you spend, on average, doing your makeup everyday?

Like 5 minutes! I work for a church, so I can’t exactly play too much.

9. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Honestly, there are so many places! If I could live for 5 years each in Ireland, Scotland, Taiwan, and South Korea I would be over the moon!

10. If you could travel to any time period, where would it be? And why?

As long as it’s only for a visit, I would really like to visit the ancient Celt tribes.

Before Hadrian and all that rot ;).

When I was a teenager, I was absolutely obsessed with Celtic history. I blame my grandmother who made sure I knew that her family hailed from the Cooper clan. And made sure that I pronounced it correctly. She also gets the credit for my discover of Boudica, my favorite woman in all of history.

Boudica statue

Boudica statue 2

Boudica was the most amazing woman ever!

Ok, so I’ve seen this on a ton of blogs, so I’m going to skip out on the nominations segment. Sorry!

I really do appreciate the nominations. Blogging and the blogging community has been and continues to be a great source of happiness for me <3.

Aritaum Full Cover Liquid Concealer Concealer #2 Natural Beige

Oh my goodness, it feels like forever since I’ve done a full review of a product! I’m not even sure how that happened.

In any case, I was looking for a good concealer that would actually cover my dark circles. Story of my life! I know there are a lot of you out there always searching for the perfect concealer too!

After about 15 minutes of searching various blogs and youtube channels, it became quite clear that it would be hard to ignore the Aritaum Full Cover line. The reviews are nothing short of wonderful and my favorite seller, Jolse, sells it for only $8.48! You can buy it here if you want to check it out for yourself.

The price was enough for me to decide to purchase the concealer. ^_^

Unlike some of the more vibrantly packaged products, the Aritaum concealer tube is pretty clean and chic. It’s just a simple 25ml plastic tube that is easy to keep in your makeup bag for touch ups – not like you will need those.

I know this is labelled as a liquid concealer, but it is definitely more of a cream. It is very thick!

The thing is, there is a cream concealer in this line. However, this one comes in a pot with both shades of the concealer. I think the difference between the two is probably in the application.

But, hey, I haven’t actually tried the concealer pot, so what can I say? 😉

As far as blendability goes, this product definitely works better with a bit of warming up on your hand. If you don’t it won’t be such a big deal though.  It does blend nicely with other bb creams and foundations, so that is nice.

Just to warn you, close ups of my eye are coming sans makeup! If you are like my first roommate in college who is slightly afraid of pictures of eyes…I’m sorry.

I looked to the side if that helps :D.

Hello, dark circles!

I would like to blame these on the internet. 😉

105_3755Somehow it doesn’t look so bad this close?

Ok, this is how I’ve found that I like to apply this concealer. You really don’t need a lot of this. Just a few little dot’s and blend outwards!

105_3758And tadaaa~~~

A weeks worth of sleep in a bottle! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

Really though, how awesome is this concealer?! Even some of my poor freckles got stuck in the crossfire and are concealed

This is after the application of the rest of my makeup. I’m wearing both cc and bb cream on top of the Aritaum concealer. You can even put on the concealer after bb cream if you wanted. I just did it this way to demonstrate.

Needless to say, I’m kind of in love with this! 4.5/5!

The concealer has rose hip oil in it and I can really feel that my skin under my eyes is hydrated throughout the day.

The lasting power is pretty awesome as well. I never have to retouch my concealer! Not even in the freak humidity of the South.

Just a shade note, I am normally an NC 25. After this Summer, I’m slightly into NC 30 and I was afraid that this concealer would be too light. Luckily, it turned out to be perfect. I would say that if you might have trouble with this if you are darker than NC 30.

Ok, here is the reason for the 4.5!

I would like to start of by saying that I have had these 2 fine lines under my eyes since I was about 15. I need a good I cream!

Anyway, this concealer is almost holy grail worthy. But without applying a primer, it creases under the eye. I’ve tried apply less and the result is the same. Be warned!

Other than that, my love affair with this concealer will probably continue for a good long time!

What do you think? Have you tried this before?

One Lovely Blog Award

I feel so blessed lately! This is my 50th blog post! 😀

Blogging has been such a fun experience so far and there is really a great sense of connectedness with other bloggers. Rose of Sharon Healing nominated me for the One Lovely Blog Award! She really is such a sweet person and that really carries into her writing no matter what she is blogging about.

The rules are pretty standard:

  •  Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog
  • Display the award logo on your blog
  • Share 7 things about yourself
  • Nominate 15 or so (yes, the “or so” is part of the rules lol)
  • Contact your chosen bloggers and let them know

Here are my 7 things 😀

  1. I have literally been stopped walking in the mall because someone wanted to know where I am from. While highly amusing, I have to refrain from being too snarky. I always make people who ask guess my ethnicity ;).
  2. People have guessed absolutely every ethnicity under the sun! I would be the BEST spy EVER!
  3. I will be one of those moms that match hello kitty accessories with their daughter.
  4. My mom taught me how to do my own nail art when I was 5. Nothing too special, but I always had to put flowers on my nails by myself after that.
  5. I took ballet, tap, and multi-cultural dance until I was 13.
  6. When I’m stressed, I either clean everything or hide in the horror section of Netflix.
  7. Driving scares me half to death. Can we go back to riding horses? PLEASE?!

And for my nominations!!!

Anxiously Bold

Lipstick and Eye Candy

Pretty Loved

No Repeats or Hesitations

Chinese Whispers

Bliss No.9

Eye Have a Lot of Feelings

Korean Day Dreamer

These blogs are absolutely awesome! Some of them I just found and I love them already. Definitely check them out!

Have a lovely day! ❤

Second Liebster Award~~~

Liebster Award 2

Oh my goodness, I have been completely overwhelmed lately by the four lovely ladies who nominated me for the Liebster Award.

  • I Am Zann Her blog is super adorable and I love her upbeat posts!
  • The Budget Makeover This blog has some awesome tips for beauty on a budget and the latest style trends.
  • My Ethereal Seas She has a really wide variety of post topics and shares a lot of her pretty art too!
  • The Red Girl This blog is just gorgeous and she posts about a lot of pretty things.

I love every single one of these blogs, so you should check them out!

Some of these blogs nominated me a couple of weeks ago and I’m FINALLY getting around to writing this post. Terrible, I know ;). But I really do appreciate the support <3.

The rules are simple:

  • Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated you
  • List 11 random facts about yourself
  • Nominate 11 other blogs with less than 200 followers (Ok, so I have seen this award on most of the blogs I follow lately, so I won’t be doing this part.)
  • Give 11 new questions
  • Post the award somewhere on your blog.

And now on to the questions! I will pick 11 of my favorite questions so this doesn’t end up too long! 😉

1. Why did you start blogging?

I have a lot of things that I love and I’m pretty sure I’ve annoyed all the people around me who care not at all. SO I needed some new people to overwhelm with my spazzy self! 😀

2. Sky or sea?

Definitely the sky. Deep water is terrifying lol.

3. What is a quote you live by?

“Who wills, Can.

Who tries, Does.

Who loves, Lives”

– Anne McCaffrey

It’s really simple, but that’s more true that I think even I realize.

4. Where do you see yourself ten years down the road?

Lord have mercy, I don’t even know. Alive? I would love to be travelling the world and exploring, but we shall see how that works out. Anything can happen ;).

5. What’s your favorite memory of school?

College counts too right? I loved every moment that I spent with my friends. From joining a dance crew to birthdays. We always made a huge deal out of birthdays!

2010 Moon Festival

Our little dance crew for the 2010 Moon Festival <3.

20th Birthday

We were so loud that night! This was my 20th birthday and I think it was probably one of the happiest days of my life. My friends are amazing people <3.

6. What is your star sign?

Taurus!!! And it’s pretty accurate except for my extreme sense of curiosity and yearning for adventure!

7. Do you have any tattoos or piercings?  Do share!

YUP! I have a tattoo on my back and one on my wrist, a belly button piercing, and three piercings in each ear.

I love this tattoo. Like a lot!

8. Do you have any special talents?

I think I have pretty typical talents? I paint, sing, and dance. They all kind of go together, right?

9. What are five things you have to bring with you no matter where you go?

  • My cell phone! I don’t like feeling unreachable. I always feel like there will be some kind of emergency.
  • My inhaler. Just in case someone blows cigarette smoke in my face. It happens more than you think.
  • Yeah that’s it. Lame, I know 😛

10. Name one celebrity crush.

Ok, I’m cheating and naming two!

Lee Min Ho and Shahid Kapoor. I will watch just about anything they are in!

11. Where do you go to seek comfort?

Anywhere with my friends! I don’t like to be alone when I feel down.

Aaaaand for my random facts!

1. I work at a Catholic church, so another need for a beauty outlet ;).

2. I am the shortest in my family at 5’3.5. The .5 is important!

3. Sleeping at normal times is IMPOSSIBLE for me.

4. I’ve only gone snowboarding one time. And I hit a tree! There ya go, my special talent! It also earned me the nickname, Robocop Freshman year of college. Good times!

brace 2

5. I watch horror movies to deal with stress. I’m not sure if that’s a bad thing or not…

6. When my teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up in kindergarten, I said an angel. And I wasn’t kidding.

7. Despite growing up in a rural area, the idea of hunting is absolutely disgusting!

8. I was a vegetarian for a month, but my hair started falling out. That made me incredibly sad! I dislike meat -___-.

9. I watch more Indian movies and Korean TV shows than I do anything in English.

10. My dad loves to count my freckles to annoy me.

11. I used to want to have an Irish accent.

Random enough? 🙂

You all probably think I’m insane. Don’t worry, I’m just incredibly happy and maybe just a little bit crazy. But, that’s the fun of it!

Beauty Blogger of the Month Award

It’s Friday~~~~~~~

Obviously I’m very excited about this :D. Just about as excited as I am about my recent nomination for the Beauty Blogger of the Month Award by the awesome Katelynn at Sentimental Stuff! She has loads of really interesting posts, so be sure to check her out!

Beauty Blogger of the Month

What is your Ultimate Beauty Guilty Pleasure?

I absolutely love giving myself a manicure. It usually takes me about 3 hours with nail art because I’m slow and try to watch dramas at the same time, but it makes me feel automatically better. About anything!

Bad day? Put some pandas on your nails!

Name a makeup trend that you loved and then tried it yourself and hated it.

Ok, remember those reaaally thick and clumpy tarantula leg-like eyelashes that were popular for a bit a few years ago? I tried it exactly once. On one eye.

Not for me.

Name a beauty trick that you think you only do and would like for everyone to know about it because it’s that great.

To help conceal my dark circles better, I started applying my concealer in an upside down triangle shape. I’ve seen this a couple times before and let me tell you, it makes everything better!

You’re at a makeup counter and see the “sales/makeup artist” gal try foundation on a customer and it’s the wrong shade, what would you do?

I wouldn’t say anything. That would be rude, in my opinion. A lot of girls where I live want darker foundation with orange tones because they think it makes them look more tanned. Who am I to judge?

What makeup brush can you not live without?

There is a stippling kabuki brush from EcoTools that was my absolute favorite brush EVER.

And then my sister stole it and lost it when we moved a couple of weeks ago. The cries!

What mascara do you swear by?

The only mascara I’ve been using for a great number of months now is the Maybelline Rocket Power Waterproof Mascara. If I tried to fully explain how much I love it, this post would be way~ too long.

What facial cleanser do you live by?

I don’t know if many of you will know this soap, but it has worked miracles on my skin! The Kojie San Whitening Soap really, truly helps with acne and the fading of acne scars.

Don’t be turned off by the skin whitening part, that is what helps fade the scars. I haven’t seen any drastic fading of my color all over my face. 😉

My Nominations:

With this award, I’m going to nominate some awesome blogs that I’ve recently discovered that definitely deserve some attention :).

Just Jay Beauty

Abigail Robyn Brown

All of these blogs are wonderful, so you should go show them some love!

Sample Wednesday! Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam

Good morning Lovelies!

I can’t believe this is the first time I’m talking about a Skinfood product considering they are one of my favorite brands EVER! 😉

I had a few of these samples and once again, I’m struggling with clogged pores. Thank you, Summer!

How far away is Fall? Because I can’t wait <3.

Moving right along….

There was enough product in this product to use 3-4 times! I couldn’t believe how much use I got out of this ikkle sample.

“A pore-refining cleanser with egg white extract that deep-cleanses pores with white foam”

That’s by far the most simple claim statement I’ve ever seen from any company!

“Egg white, enriched with alumin, promotes firmer skin and smaller pores”

I can’t find anything online about alumin, so I’m assuming it’s a translation error?

I have not a clue.

Let me just say, this cleanser is so thick! Even on my fingers it felt like a heavy cream.

And as you can see it didn’t foam as much as you would expect.

These are close ups of my pore-trouble areas.

105_3152 - Copy

And this is what it looks like after.

The cleanser is very drying!

When you first spread it on your face, it feels so thick that you don’t feel like it’s working. After drying your face, you feel the results.

Unfortunately, the drying was a little too harsh for me and my normal skin. I had to use a heavier night cream to bring the moisture back. This would probably work a lot better for people who have oily skin.

As far as deep cleansing, the excess sebum and such was cleansed for my face, but I wasn’t all that impressed. My face didn’t feel clean, just dry.

First Impression Score:

This product would be very nice for people with acne prone or oily skin!

But, that is not this skin. Le sigh!

I do have breakouts, but they are due to hormones so harsh products just irritate my skin. So! For all you lovely people with oily skin looking for a cleanser….

Here ya go! 😉

Liebster Award ^_^

Oh my goodness! I am now officially overwhelmed ∩(︶▽︶)∩!

Liebster Award

The wonderful Katie at Plus+Beauty has nominated this baby blog for the Liebster Award! I’m probably freaking the people in Starbucks out with my very visible happy feels right now (~ ̄▽ ̄)~.

If you don’t follow her already, you should definitely check her out. She is a really sweet person! Katie posts really frequently and I love her reviews!

Here are the rules for the award:

  • Post 11 random facts about yourself
  • Answer the 11 questions that the person who nominated you will post
  • Choose 11 new blogs with under 200 followers for their Liebster Award, notify them that they have been nominated, and think of 11 questions for them to answer

My 11 facts:

1. I am still afraid of the dark!

2. I wasn’t even curious about makeup until I was almost 18.

3. I was in a hip hop dance crew when I was in college! o(≧o≦)o

4. Two of my best friends and I call ourselves “The Trouble Triplets” and we are Vietnamese, Filipino, and …well, then there’s me. We are a wonderful group!

5. I don’t have a favorite color, but if it’s bright, you can bet I will love it!

6. Swimming in lakes terrifies me because I’m afraid of being eaten by a shark. Don’t question it!

7. I am the oldest of 4 children.

8. The town I was born and raised in is waaaay~~~ too small to contain me haha.

9. If painting my nails didn’t take hours, I would give myself a new and incredibly cute manicure every week.

10. I am 5’3.5. The half is extremely important!

11. At any given time you can probably find me dancing or singing along to a random Bollywood or K-pop song.

Answers to the 11 questions:

1. Why did you start blogging?

Like I said, I live in a terribly small town and my blog is my way of expressing myself and giving myself an excuse to do what I love. Not that I really need an excuse.

I do what I want! (✿◠‿◠)

2. Where did the name of your blog come from?

I am very opposed to the idea of a singular type of beauty or trying to conform to other’s ideas of beauty. I want to believe in and express a form of beauty that is unique and changes from person to person. The way you live your life and share your own personal passions makes you beautiful as much as the way you were born.

3. What is your favorite of your own blog posts?

I think my Everyday is a Superhero Day post is my absolute favorite so far! It is a pretty accurate snapshot of who I am. Add a dash of spazziness and you have me ;).

4. How do you find new blogs to follow?

I always check out the blogs of people who stumble upon my blog and decide to like or comment. Sometimes I surf through the recommendations as well.

Other than that, I usually find blogs through Google when I look up reviews for different products.

5. Would you ever stop following a blog? And why?

Honestly, I might. But only if the blogger repeatedly posted things I found terribly offensive, ignorant, or racist. I really can’t tolerate racism.

6. What is your opinion on commenting on blog posts?

I love genuine comments on a post! It really gives a sense of community.

I don’t comment a lot on other blogs unless I feel like I really have something to say.

7. Name one author whose books you will always read.

Nora Roberts! Laugh all you want, but my grandmother loved them. She and my uncle got me into them a number of years ago and I love her books!

8. If you could recommend one book for another to read, what would it be and why?

Oh dear goodness, I read too much for this question!

The first thing I can think of is Looking for Alaska by John Green.

9. What is your most anticipated read of 2014?

Hmmmmmm one of my friends just published her first novel and I’m really looking forward to reading about it. You can read about it on her author page.

10. Who is your favorite designer?

I’m really liking Anna Sui right now!

11. How do you pick your outfits?

Really I just pick whatever makes me slightly uncomfortable and add a very generous dash of fun ;). I try to make a point of not holding myself back when it comes to fashion. There is no reason for me to let anything take away my confidence!

And here’s for the best part of my post!

EcoTools Skin Perfecting Brush Review

Oh look, a review that isn’t from Etude House! ^_^

I promise I own other products! This one, unfortunately, was definitely a let down so it will be a rather short review.

So sad! I have never been disappointed by EcoTools brushes, but this one was just terrible. I bought it because it very loosely resembled a Bubbi brush that I have been coveting.

Well, let’s just launch straight into it then!

This brush has the same earthy packaging as the other EcoTools products. It really fits with their use of natural and recyclable materials and cruelty free stance.

DSCF4006 DSCF4005

This brush was designed to work specifically with BB and CC creams which sounded great to me considering that is mostly what I use. It also claims to be “beautifully soft with bamboo and recycled materials.”

While I’m not going to contest the bamboo and recycled materials part, it’s the soft that is the problem. The bristles did feel soft when I touched them with my fingers, but they stabbed and scratched the more sensitive skin on my face!

I really only got through one side of my face before I just gave up.

The shape of the brush is nice! I will give it that. If it wasn’t so dang uncomfortable, it would get into the contours of your face really well.

The handle is a really nice medium length and ergonomic, so it feels nice in your hands. That sounds weird, I know! But I’m really weird about that, I guess ;).

*Le sigh.*

I had such high hopes!

Another disappointing category.

The blending ability of this brush is nearly non-existent. I even tried to apply the BB cream lightly, but I couldn’t get rid of the streaks left by the bristles.

1 rating

Point for recyclable materials?

I really do love EcoTools, I promise! I just wish that this brush was as good as their other ones.

Have you used this brush yet? If you have, do it work better for you?

Fashionista Award~~~

Fashionista Award

Oh my goodness! I was just nominated for this award by the Rikzah Zia at Lost In My Dreamland. Be sure to check her out! I’m absolutely blown away at this response to my ikkle baby blog <3.

These are the questions that go along with it. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

1. What motivated you to start blogging?

I have wanted to blog for years, but I resisted the temptation until recently! I recently moved back to help my family and found myself in a small Southern town. After living in a fairly large and definitely fashion forward city, it was definitely a culture shock.

Blogging is my connection to the larger beauty world, my escape from the land where you either subscribe to one style of fashion or you have no concept of it at all.

2. Favorite movies?

I watch a lot of foreign films, so enjoy the very random list ;).

미녀는 괴로워 (500 Pounds Beauty)

여고괴담 3: 여우계단 (Wishing Stairs)

3. What is your dream career?

I’m not exactly sure what kind of job it would be, but I’ve always wanted to do something that mentored teenagers and young adults who have been abused. I work with youth now and I don’t think I’ll be changing careers anytime soon :). Maybe one day I’ll find my perfect job. Or make one for myself!

4. Top wishlist items at the moment?

Ok, I don’t even have to think very hard about this one!

All of the Bubbi (Bubzbeauty) makeup brushes!!!

A vanity (It’s not a makeup product, but it’s beauty related, right?)

Skin Watchers Cooling Pore Mask

Too Cool for School Pudding Shaking Aqua BB Cream (That name is waaay too long!)

K-Palette 1 Day Tattoo Liquid Liner

5. Favorite TV shows?

별에서 온 그대 (My Love from the Star)

미남이시네요  (You’re Beautiful)

命中注定我愛你 (Fated to Love You)

Vampire Diaries

6. What stores do you find yourself shopping in the most?

Plato’s Closet is probably my favorite store right now! I can’t help it. I love the deals too much to resist! 😀

7. Favorite fashion designers?

Ziad Nakad

Antonio Marras

Anna Sui

8. Describe your dream vacation?

Dream vacation? Well, if I’m allowed to dream big, I would LOVE to take a year and travel the world. There is so much that I want to see, so many cultures I want to explore, people I want to meet!

9. What are the goals of your blog?

I’m just happy blogging! I just want to continue to be able to share my obsessions with everything beauty related and show people that beauty transcends race, and conventional beauty standards.

10. If you had the opportunity to interview a celebrity, who would it be?

There are so many! This question is hard.

Janelle Monae! From everything I’ve seen from her, she seems like a really down to earth woman. She is a really positive influence for young women and I think she has a lot to offer.

Ok, that’s it for the questions! Now on to my nominees!
